All About Hanna

My name is Hanna. I am 9 years old. In my spare time I like to dance my butt off, sing, play with my best  friend Khear who goes to a different school  in Kam. I also like to go swiming, go to the beach and go fishing. My favourite food is sushi . My favourite movies are the Lorax, Up, Revenge, H2O, and Pitch Perfect. Over the summer  holidays I went past South Queen's Bay. I saw  Snail  Island, White Island and Whale Island. In Room 2 I would like to put things on our class blog.

 

 

Mexican Fiesta

Our theme for Adventure Learning this week was Mexican Fiesta. Over the past two weeks Adventure Learning has been quite structured, with a large focus on planning and reflection. This week Room 2 was provided with a group challenge. On Thursday I explained that on Friday we would all be making nachos. The children organised themselves into small groups. They were then given a list of ingredients to make nachos including nacho chips, cheese, salsa and guacamole. In previous weeks we have gone through step by step instructions of how we would carry out our activity. This week the children in Room 2 were told that they would have to discuss in their group the best way to make their nachos. The then had to work together as a team to develop their plan. No one method was right or wrong. Some groups decided they would put their chips on their plate, then sprinkle cheese on top. Other groups tried to melt their cheese on a plate first and then spoon it onto their nacho chips. It's important that Adventure Learning is student directed and that the teacher's opinion is kept out of it. The children will then reflect on their learning on Monday (we ran out of time today). When they complete their individual reflections they are all encouraged to think about what went well, what they learnt, what challenges they came across and what they might do differently next time. Room 2 will continue to work on 'whole class themes' for Adventure Learning for the next few weeks, before moving on to individual or small group projects. A lot of the children are already buzzing with ideas about what they would like to learn about. Our mexican fiesta really encouraged everyone to work together as a team. Room 2 has a lot of fun working in our class kitchen today. I couldn't believe how they could eat such big plates of nachos! If your child came home with a full lunch box today this will be why...

A letter from a very special person :)

This week I received a letter from a student that was in my class last year, but has now moved on to intermediate. It was such a nice surprise! Caitlin is the reason we do Adventure Learning so you can say a big thank you to her Room 2. She completely inspired me two years ago when she attended the Gifted Kids Programme. I am planning to continue this adventure and hopefully inspire other children, as well as other teachers. I am also going to visit Stonefields School in Auckland. Google them Caitlin and have a look at what they do for Breakthrough learning. It's very similar to what we did last year.

Caitlin, I loved hearing about what you have been doing and how your year is going for you so far. I'm so happy that you are able to continue participating in Future Problem Solving. Community problem solving also sounds interesting. We would love to learn more about what you have to do for community problem solving. It's great that you have started learning how to play the guitar. I wish I could play the guitar! Are you still going to GKP this year?

Room 2 have had a great week. We have been learning how to post on the blog, comment on other blogs and we also made nachos today for Adventure Learning (Our version of Passion Time). At the moment we are learning how to plan and reflect as a whole class. In a few weeks the children in Room 2 will move onto individual projects. We have also been learning how to use the ipads to enhance our learning experiences. Our shared book at the moment is the BFG. I'm thinking that we might read the first Harry Potter book next. I'm sure you will approve.

My name is Curtis. I am 8 years old. In my spare time I like to play bull rush and play on my Xbox 360 Connect. I like playing skate 3. My favourite food are chicken wraps. My favourite movies are Fast Five and Tokyo Drift. Over the summer holidays I like to run and play games. In Room 2 I would like to work harder on my Adventure Learning. I can't wait until hut building.

Over the summer holidays I went to Ruakaka for two weeks. I went to the pools too. In Room 2 I would like to get my work finished faster.
