Can you guess what Xyin saw at Ruakaka Beach?

Today Xyin came to school with some very exciting news. Xyin went to Ruakaka beach to collect pipis, but that wasn't all that he found. Can you guess what it might be? Check out Xyin's video to hear his story.

After listening to Xyin's story we were curious to find out more. We had lots of questions! Miss Gentil also challenged us to prove whether they are dolphins or whales.

  • Where do they come from?
  • Where do they live?
  • Do they need to breathe?
  • Are they mammals?
  • How big can they grow?
  • How long can they live?
  • I wonder what the do other than swimming?
  • Where do they breed?
  • What do they eat?

Tomorrow we are going to do a mini inquiry unit on orcas and see what we can find out!

I really like Orcas I saw some up at Tokarau beach once when we were digging for pipis there were lots of stingrays out beyond the waves behind us and the Orcas were surfing in and catching them. Orcas love to eat stingrays. From Kerry room 7 @ Morningside :-)
